Stone is one of the most familiar heavy material. Every field in satoyama is paved with stones in a terraced pattern, and every time I see a stone wall, I am impressed by the greatness of people in the past. The use of natural stones, such as bundling stones and weighted stones, can be observed on a daily basis.

Stones are also used as objects for special religious beings, such as Dosojin, Jizo, and other stone monuments.

It is plausible that stone walls close to the mountains have a cracked and jagged appearance, while the riverside ones uses round stones.
