tsutsuji extracted

In a garden , there is an old plum tree surrounded by several different kinds of trees. Three tsutsuji trees, which were probably planted to complement the plum trees, had grown so large that they had become a huge mass, as if they were the main characters of the garden. (That tsutsuji trees had probably been pruned frequently and kept in beautiful shape before.) One day the the trees were cut down because it was difficult to keep them in good shape.

The branches of the tsutsuji had been repeatedly pruned and therefore turned in every direction, forming a very intricate and complex line. Isamu Hazama extracted the shapes that caught his eye and intervened by removing some of the bark. By further incorporating mechanical concrete into the form, the tsutsuji was reborn as an object with the theme of questioning the relationship between nature, people, and civilization.
