Although it may be incorrect to use the word “ twigs” as a single word, Xylin has a variety of twigs in its collection. There are mainly oaks and nanten branches collected while cleaning up the mountain, sakaki branches that are cut monthly for the kamidana (Shinto altar), persimmon and plum branches, and some branches of indistinguishable species. We also use the word “twig” refferring to the trunks of shrubs and young trees and stems of itadori (Japanese knotweed) that are not strictly speaking twigs.
